The Super 8 is gearing up for 2014, with the league in Baja kicking off in June, the league in California in October and tournaments in Costa Rica, Panama, and Spain sprinkled throughout the year.

The Broncos defeated the Lynx 40-4 to move to 2-0 in the regular season and the Lobos won 67-1 over the Cuervos to move to 1-1.

In week 3 the 2-0 Broncos will take on the 0-2 Cuervos and the 1-1 Lobos will play the 1-1 Lynx to determine second place.

The semi finals and finals will be held in UABC.

Los Broncos derrotaron a los Lynx 40-4 para pasar a 2-0 en la temporada regular y los Lobos ganaron 67-1 sobre los Cuervos para pasar a 1-1.

The Thundercats defeated the Galgos 32-7 to take home the Super 8 Bowl II  Championship. The Thundercats finished the season with a 5 game winning streak and were led by a stellar defense that recorded 2 safties in the championship game and held the Galgos to just one score. The Thundercats offense led by QB Justin Mc Kenzie (3 TD passes in the game) Zach Gorman (the leagues 2nd leading rushing TD scorer) and the co #1 WR ‘s Cesar “Pollo” Vasquez and Phil Williams each added TD to cap off the season. The Thundercats took the lead when Ricky Thomas recorded a safety to put the  T-Cats up 2-0. Phillip Williams added to the scoring to make it a 8-0 T-Cat lead. Zach Gorman punched in a TD on the ground to put the T-Cats up 14-0. On the last play of the first half DB/WR Josh Lee scored on a hail mary to give the Thundercats a 20-0 lead, on the ensuing conversion the Galgos scored a return on the missed PAT to finish the first half 20-1 in favor of the Thundercats. A Pollo Vasquez TD in the 3rd quarter put the dagger in the heart of the Galgos and gave the Thundercats a 26-1 lead. A safety by Inaki Zarate added to the scoring pushing the lead to 28-1 when the Galgos finally scored in the 4th to make the score 28-7. The Thundercats capped it off with a Zach Gorman TD to wrap up the Super 8 Bowl 2 32-7.

In earlier action in a special exhibition the Lobos Intermedia defeated the Cuervos 13-8 to win the special exhibition challenge game.  With the second season now in the books the Super 8 moves forward into tournament season with the Super 9 TJ and Ensenada tournaments as well as the Super 8 Anniversary Tournament in Mexicali. Congratulations to everyone on a great season.

The Galgos Tijuana defeated the Cuervos Tijuana 48-16 to punch their ticket to Super 8 Bowl II at Furati on Sunday, November 3. The Galgos who were coming off a tough loss to the #1 seeded Thundercats dominated most of the game and are now looking for 1 more win to claim the 2013 Super 8 Championship.

The Galgos defense played solid and the offense punched in key scores to keep the Cuervos off balance. Next week the Galgos vs. Thundercas should be another exciting football game. The Cuervos will play against the Lobos Tijuana in an exhibition game prior to the Final.

The Lobos vs Cuervos will start at 5pm and the Super 8 Bowl will be at 7pm.

November 3rd begins the first season of Super 8 Juniors following IFAF regulations of under 19. All games will be played at Lynx field and the teams will play a single round before playing a 2 round play offs to crown the Super 8 Junior champions.

The regular season if over and the final regular season game saw the Duo Sports Thundercats defeat the Galgos Tijuana 34-23. In an exciting back and forth contest the Galgos jumped out to a 9-0 lead behind a Ruzzo touchdown and a safety before the Thundercats came back with a Touchdown Pass from Justin Mc Kenzie to Cesar “Pollo” Vasquez followed by a Phillip Williams conversion to cut the lead from 9-8. The Thundercats took the lead following a Zach Gorman touchdown run and a 2 point conversion on a pass from Justin Mc Kenzie to Arturo Rosales to take a 16-9 lead.  The Galgos scored another safety and an Abel Toral touchdown pass to put the Galgos back in the lead at 17-16. The Thundercats responded with a Justin Mc Kenzie touchdown pass to Phillip Williams followed by a 2 point conversion to put the Thundercats up 24-17. The Thundercats defense answered by recording a safety to give the Thundercats a 26-17 lead in the 3rd quarter. In the final quarter the Galgos scored to cut the lead to 26-23 in favor of the Thundercats. The final score of the game came on Zach Gorman’s second touchdown run followed by a Cesar “Pollo” Vasquez 2 point conversion to close out the game 34-23 in favor of the Thundercats.

The Thundercats have advanced to the final where they will face the winner of the Galgos vs. Cuervos semi-final, on Sunday October 27th . Additionally the team that loses will play in a special exhibition before the Final on November 3rd.

Following the Final will be the 9 man tournament as well as the Mexicali Anniversary Tournament.

En un nuevo y emocionante disputar sucesivamente los Galgos saltaron a una ventaja de 9-0 tras un touchdown Ruzzo y seguridad antes de los Thundercats regresaron con un pase de touchdown de Justin Mc Kenzie a Cesar “Pollo” Vázquez seguido por una conversión Phillip Williams acortar la ventaja 9-8 . In Week 5 the Cuervos Tijuana and Galgo Tijuana met in in what was the Cuervos last regular season game as well as the closest game of the season. Behind the strength of 2 Abel Toral touchdown runs the Galgos took a 20-6 half time lead but behind QB Jako Malck with a TD pass and run the Cuervos rallied to tie the game at 20 with just over 6 minutes to go in the 4th quarter.  After going back and forth with defensive stops the the Galgos’ defense recorded a safety and capped off the ensuing drive with a TD to secure the 28-20 victory. The Galgos now hold a 2 game regular season edge over the Cuervos but they must face each other one more time on October 27 in the Semi Final to determine who will play in the Super 8 Bowl II.

The regular season finale is this week October 20 as the Galgos Tijuana will play the Duo Sports Thundercats. The Thundercats have already clinched a spot in the finals and are coming off of 3 decisive victories in a row while the Galgos are coming off a thrilling 28-20 victory in Week 5 over the Cuervos. The regular season of the 2013 Super 8 Football League season comes to a close Sunday, October 20, 2013.

The Diablos Ensenada have ceased operations for the remainder of the 2013 season, we wish the Diablos the best in their future endeavors and hope that they return to the field of play one day.

In the absence of the Diablos , Tecate will be forming an arena team to play in a special exhibition before the Super 8 Championship game on November 3. The Thundercats have been rolling with 3 consecutive wins including a 66-0 over the Cuervos, 94-6 over the Galgos, and 72-6 over Cuervos. With that last victory the Thundercats have secured their place in the final. The Galgos and Cuervos have 2 more meetings before the finals with a regular season match up on October 13 and a semi final on October 27. On October 20 the Galgos will play the Thundercats in the season finale.

The post season will be eventful as the Super 8 will hold a Anniversary tournament in November in Mexicali featuring the league co-founders the Astros Mexicali and the Duo Sports Thunderats as well as the Cuervos and Galgos de Tijuana and Tecate as well. The first ever Super 9 tournament will be held in November as well and will be the first 9 man tournament on an 11 man field for semi pro in Baja.

In week 2 action the Diablos Ensenada hosted the Galgos Tijuana in a 72-6 blow out. The Diablos were lead by 3 TD passes from QB Julin Malagamba to Owen Nunez, Victor Nunez, and Salvador Sanchez were on the receiving ends of those touchdowns. Manuel Grijalva, Marcos Quiroz, and Javier Guitierez scored on the ground giving the Diablos a balanced attack against the Galgos. As the Diablos racked up points and yards the saving grace for the Galgos came on a fumble recovery in the endzone by Luis Guzman to put 6 points on the board for the Galgos. The Diablos move to 2-0 and the Galgos drop to 0-1. Up next for the Diablos is a trip to Tijuana to play the Cuervos and the Galgos will face the Duo Sports Thundercats in Rosarito.

Also in week 2 action the Duo Sports Thundercats faced the Cuervos Tijuana , which saw the Thundercats pull away with a 66-0 win. The Thundercats offense led by QB Justin Mc Kenzie who threw 2 TD passes 1 to Phillip Williams and the teams leadig reciever “Pollo” as well as rushed for 2 TD’s . The Thundercats ground game also saw touchdowns from Sergio Gonzales, Zach Gorman, and “Pollo” in addition to 2 defensive touchdowns on a fumble return by B.B. Pettaway and an interception return by Zach Gorman. The Cuervos are a young team with lots of upside and next week they will host the Diablos and the Thundercats will play the first regular season game in Rosarito against the Galgos.

Power Rankings:

#1- Diablos Ensenada

The Diablos did what they were expected to do against the Galgos and won big, nothing changes as they stay number 1 in the power rankings, this week they play the Cuervos Tijuana in which they are expected to win big. All signs point to the game on October 5th in Ensenada to be the game that determines the #1 seed, at the moment the Diablos win by 10 points over the Thundercats has them at #1.

#2-Duo Sports Thundercats

The Thundercats welcomed back Sergio Gonzales, and Zach Gorman and showed great balance by establishing a strong running game. Last season the Thundercats had a million WR’s this year it seems as though they have a ton of RB’s expect more of the switching between run and pass as the Thundercats offensively are equally as strong on both phases and now that several key defensive players are back an already tough defense just got tougher, nothing changes the Thundercats are sitting at #2 and need a victory by 11 points or more in Ensenada to jump over the Diablos.

#3- Galgos Tijuana

The Galgos had a rough outing in Ensenada but if they can pull the team back together they have the inside track on being in the semi-final. It’s a young team with some good players they just need more experience. This week they face the Thundercats in what should be another tough challenge for the Galgos.

#4-Cuervos Tijuana

The Cuervos found themselves on the losing end of a 66-0 game this week. There were a few bright spots but they will need to step up their game against the Diablos next week. Cuervos vs. Galgos on October 5th will determine who’s going to the the semi-final.

Galgos Tijuana @ Diablos Ensenada

The Diablos are coming off a hard fought 16-6 victory against the Thundercats in Tijuana and now have their home opener against the Galgos Tijuana who one a TJ Cup tournament opening game against the Cuervos 52-26. The Galos have since replaced the Astros Mexicali in the Super 8 and are at the moment leading the TJ Cup Standings at 1-0 as well as playing their first official Super 8 game against the Super 8 Champion Diablos. The Galgos play a very rough and physical style and will need to execute their game plan to perfection against the Diablos. The Diablos look to win and move to 2-0 and keep themselves in the lead for an automatic berth to the Super 8 Bowl II.

Duo Sports Thundercats vs. Cuervos Tijuana

This game counts in the standings for both the TJ Cup and the Super 8 as the Cuervos and Thundercats will do battle for the second time. In pre season action the Thundercats were victorious 98-32 but the Cuervos have since improved and look to close the gap between the 2 teams. The Cuervos are 1-0 in Super 8 play with a forfeit victory over the Astros Mexicali and 0-1 in TJ cup play with a loss to the Galgos in week 1. The Thundercats come in with a tough loss to the Diablos where neither team scored in the second half of the game so they look to move to 1-1 and get back in contention for the #1 spot currently held by the Diablos.

Power Rankings:

#1 Diablos Ensenada- A win over the Thundercats in week 1 keeps the Diablos at #1 both teams struggled offensively so not much has changed in the way of the power rankings.

#2 Duo Sports Thundercats- An opening week loss in a tightly contested game keeps the Thundercats at #2 for the time being both the Diablos and Thundercats have to be looking forward to the October 5 rematch which will determine who is #1 and going to the Super 8 Bowl II.

#3 Galgos Tijuana- The Galgos win over the Cuervos puts them at a solid #3 ad would put them in the semi final if they hold the #3 spot, but with games vs. the Diablos and Thundercats in back to back weeks will show everyone where the Galgos stand.

#4 Cuervos Tijuana- Technically the Cuervos are tied for 1st place with their forfeit victory but from this point on they will have to fight to reach the play offs, they are steadily improving but will need a win over the Galgos to jump into the play off picture with the Thundercats this week and Diablos the following the Cuervos need to imporove and prepare for their October 5th rematch with the Galgos.
